On June 20, 2026, San Diego Argonauts mentors conducted the first on-the-water test of an early RoboBuoy concept at the pond. The prototype explored a simple, low-cost approach to radio-controlled station-keeping using readily available RC boat components and a basic anchor deployment and retrieval system.
Like any engineering project, the goal was not perfection but learning—testing ideas, identifying improvements, and taking the first step toward a practical educational platform that combines robotics, navigation, electronics, and marine engineering in a fun, hands-on environment.
The photos and videos below capture some of the day’s testing and lessons learned as we continue developing future versions of the concept.
